How the ratings work

The moon. New and full moon days get the top moon score, the days right around them come next, then the quarter moons. The crescent and gibbous days in between score lowest.

The tide. Each day's range between high and low water at Eagle Point (from NOAA predictions) is compared with the other days in this calendar. The days with the most water moving score highest. On Galveston Bay the tide doesn't follow the moon phase very closely, so the two scores often disagree. That's why both count.

Major and minor periods. Major periods are the two hours centred on when the moon is straight overhead or directly underfoot. Minor periods are the hour centred on moonrise and moonset. Fish tend to feed harder in these windows. A ★ means the period lines up with sunrise or sunset, which is the best combination.

Weather is still the final call. A "Best" day with a 25 mph north wind is still a bad day on the lake. Check today's conditions and the 7-day forecast on the home page before you hook up the boat.
